You did the work. You made the product, wrote the listing, hit publish, and then refreshed the stats page for a week while nothing happened.
I want to say something unpopular first: in most cases the problem is not the product. It’s that you’re guessing which part of the system is broken, so you’re fixing random things. Somebody tells you to add more tags, so you add more tags. Somebody says lower your price, so you lower your price. Neither is diagnosis – it’s just activity.
The direct answer: almost every “no sales” problem is one of two problems, and your stats page tells you which. If you have almost no views, it’s a discovery problem and the fix is in your title, tags and traffic. If you have views but no sales, it’s a listing problem and the fix is in your first image, your price and how clearly you name the thing you solve. A healthy Etsy conversion rate in 2026 sits around 2 to 3%, so 1,000 views with zero sales is a real signal, and 40 views with zero sales is just not enough data yet.
Start there. Everything below assumes you’ve checked which of the two you have. <!– IN-POST IMAGE 1 –> <!– Canva edit: https://www.canva.com/design/DAHT6RBWbGw/edit –>

Why Are My Etsy Digital Products Not Selling?
Because your listing isn’t being seen, or it’s being seen and not chosen. Those are two different problems with two different fixes, and treating them as one is why most sellers spin.
Open your Etsy stats, set the range to the last 30 days, and look at views per listing.
Under about 100 views in 30 days – discovery problem. Etsy isn’t showing you to anyone. Your title and tags aren’t matching what people type, or your listing is too new, or it’s been quietly buried. Fix search first, and send outside traffic while you wait.
Over 300 views and no sales – conversion problem. Etsy is showing you to people and they’re saying no. More tags will not help you. The first image, the price and the clarity of the offer are what’s failing.
Somewhere in between – a bit of both, and honestly, not enough data yet. Give it another two weeks before you rip anything apart.
The reason this matters so much is that Etsy’s algorithm weighs conversion heavily. Views that don’t convert don’t just fail to make you money – they actively tell Etsy your listing isn’t worth showing. Which brings us to the thing nobody warns beginners about.
What Is the “Dead Weight” Problem on Etsy?
It’s when a listing sits for months with low views and no favourites, and Etsy effectively stops surfacing it because low engagement signals low quality.
This is the quiet killer. A listing that’s been up for four months with 10 views and zero favourites isn’t waiting to be discovered. It’s been filed away. And here’s the bit that catches people: because it never gets shown, it never gets the engagement it needs to stop being filed away. It’s a loop.
You cannot fix a dead listing by tweaking one tag and hoping. You have three real options:
Renew or relist it. Renewing costs $0.20 and gives the listing a small freshness signal. It’s not magic, but on a genuinely dead listing it’s cheap.
Rebuild it properly. New first image, new title, new description, new tags – effectively a new listing. If the product is good, this is worth doing. If it’s your fifth-best product, don’t bother.
Delete it and move on. Ten mediocre listings dragging your shop average down is worse than three good ones. Beginners hoard listings because deleting feels like admitting failure. It isn’t.
The practical rule I use: if a listing has under 50 views after 60 days, rebuild it or bin it. Don’t nurse it.

I Get Views But No Sales – What’s Wrong?
Your first listing image, almost always. It’s doing 80% of the selling and most beginners treat it as an afterthought.
Here’s why it’s so decisive. Roughly 46% of Etsy’s marketplace sales now happen in the app, which means your product is competing as a thumbnail the size of a postage stamp in a fast scroll. At that size, nobody reads your title. They see a picture and either stop or keep going. That’s the entire decision.
What works in a mobile grid:
- One clear focal object, not a collage of nine tiny pages. A collage looks thorough on desktop and looks like noise on a phone.
- Text on the image, three or four words maximum, big enough to read at thumbnail size. “60 Page Digital Planner” beats a beautiful wordless mockup every time.
- High contrast. Pale beige on cream is invisible in a grid.
- A visible outcome. Show the planner on a tablet in use, not a flat PDF page.
If you’re not sure whether yours works, do this: search your own keyword on your phone, screenshot the results, and see if you can spot your listing in under two seconds. If you can’t, neither can a buyer. My digital product mockups in Canva post covers how to build these quickly, and Creative Fabrica is where I get fonts and graphics when everything in Canva’s free library is starting to look the same.
The second most common conversion killer is that your listing never names a problem. “Aesthetic Digital Planner” is a description of a file. “Digital Planner for Freelancers Who Keep Losing Track of Invoices” is a description of a person’s bad day. Buyers in 2026 are not browsing for random downloads – they’re searching for a specific fix. Generic listings get skipped.
Is My Price the Reason I’m Not Selling?
Sometimes, but far less often than people think – and the fix is usually to raise it, not lower it.
Underpricing is the more common mistake with digital products, and it backfires in two ways. A $2 planner reads as low quality next to a $12 one, and it takes fifty sales a month to make anything meaningful. If your price is the lowest on the results page and you’re still not selling, price was never the problem.
The real pricing questions:
- Is your price wildly out of line with the top 10 results for your keyword? If everyone is $8 to $15 and you’re $34, you need to justify it visibly in the first image or come down.
- Is your product priced like a bundle but sized like a single item? Buyers count pages.
- Are you discounting instead of improving? A sale on a listing nobody wants just means nobody wants it cheaper.
I went through the whole framework in how to price digital products on Etsy. The short version: price for the outcome, not for the file size.

The 7 Fixes, In the Order I’d Actually Do Them
Do these in order. Doing number six before number two is how people waste months.
1. Diagnose views versus sales. Ten minutes with the stats page. You cannot fix what you haven’t identified.
2. Rebuild the first image. Highest leverage change available to you, and it takes 30 minutes in Canva. Do this before touching anything else if you have views.
3. Rewrite the title as a search phrase. Front-load the exact words a buyer would type. “Digital Planner 2026 Undated Goal Tracker for iPad GoodNotes” beats “Dreamy Planner Set”. Not elegant. Effective.
4. Name the problem in the first two lines of the description. Mobile buyers see two lines before “read more”. Waste them on “Welcome to my shop!” and you’ve lost the sale.
5. Refresh the tags against actual search terms. Use Etsy’s own search bar autocomplete – it’s free and it’s literally what buyers type. Full method in Etsy SEO for digital products.
6. Send outside traffic. Etsy rewards listings that convert, and outside traffic converts well because those people already want what you have. Pinterest is the obvious channel for this niche – how to use Pinterest to drive traffic to Etsy has the setup. Short-form video works too, and CapCut handles the editing without a learning curve.
7. Stop relying on Etsy alone. This is the strategic one. Etsy owns your customers – you get a first name and no email address. Building your own list means the next launch doesn’t start from zero. I use Systeme.io for the landing page, email list and automation on its free plan, and LeadCreator when I want the page and freebie built for me instead of from scratch. You can see what the finished version looks like on my freebie page.
That last point is worth more than the other six combined over a year. Etsy has 86.6 million active buyers and digital downloads are its fastest-growing category at roughly 25% year-on-year growth, so the demand is genuinely there. But a shop with no email list is a business you rent, not one you own.

How Long Should It Take to Get Your First Sale?
Anywhere from a few days to a few months, and the honest variable is how many listings you have and where else your traffic comes from.
A shop with three listings and no outside traffic can sit at zero for a long time without anything being wrong. A shop with fifteen listings and a Pinterest account usually sees movement inside a month. This isn’t because fifteen is a magic number – it’s that more listings means more chances to accidentally hit a keyword you’d never have guessed.
So if you’re at three listings and panicking: you’re not failing, you’re under-sampled. Make more products before you rebuild the ones you have.
Working in 60 to 90 minute blocks, a realistic cadence looks like: one new product a week, one listing rebuild a week, and one Pinterest pin per product. That’s a system you can hold for six months. A frantic weekend of listing twenty things and then nothing for a month is not.
What Not to Waste Time On
Etsy Ads before your listings convert. Paying to send traffic to a listing that converts at 0% is buying a more expensive zero. Fix conversion first, then consider ads.
Constant tag rotation. Changing tags every three days means you never learn what worked. Change, then wait 30 days.
Chasing trends you don’t understand. A trend product in a niche you know nothing about produces a listing that looks exactly like everyone else’s. Choosing a niche properly beats chasing.
Comparing your month one to someone’s year three. The income screenshots you’re seeing are the top fraction of a percent. What people actually make selling digital products has the realistic numbers.

FAQ
Why are my Etsy digital products not selling? Either nobody is seeing them or people are seeing them and not buying. Check views in your stats: under 100 views in 30 days is a discovery problem, over 300 views with no sales is a listing problem. The fixes are completely different.
What is a good conversion rate on Etsy for digital products? Around 2 to 3% is healthy in 2026, with 3 to 5% strong and above 5% excellent. Under 1% with meaningful traffic means the listing needs work, not more traffic.
I get views but no sales on Etsy – why? Usually the first listing image. With roughly 46% of Etsy sales happening in the app, your product competes as a thumbnail, so a cluttered or low-contrast first image loses before the title is ever read.
How many listings do I need before I get sales? There’s no magic number, but three listings is not enough data to conclude anything. Ten to fifteen gives you a realistic chance of hitting keywords you wouldn’t have guessed.
Should I lower my prices to get sales? Usually no. Underpricing signals low quality and makes the maths impossible. If you’re already the cheapest on the page and still not selling, price was never the issue.
Do Etsy Ads help a new digital product shop? Not until your listings convert organically. Ads amplify whatever your listing already does, so paying for traffic to a 0% listing just costs more.
Should I delete listings that get no views? If a listing has under 50 views after 60 days, rebuild it properly or delete it. Low-engagement listings get deprioritised in search and drag the rest of your shop with them.
How long does it take to get the first Etsy sale? Days to months depending on listing count and outside traffic. Shops sending Pinterest traffic typically move faster than shops relying on Etsy search alone.
Is Etsy still worth it for digital products in 2026? Yes, but as one channel rather than the whole business. Digital downloads are Etsy’s fastest-growing category, though competition is high and you don’t own the customer relationship.
What’s the single fastest thing I can change today? The first listing image. It’s 30 minutes in Canva and it’s the highest-leverage change available to a listing that already has views.
